UVA Curators

Unbound Visual Arts is always looking for new Guest Curators.  Send and email cover letter and résumé to info@UnboundVisualArts.org .  Please indicate if you have a preliminary or detailed exhibit proposal.  As of 2021,  honoraria are provided to UVA’s Curators.  UVA curators may curate both virtual 3D and in-person physical exhibits.  The curator may not include their own art in an exhibit they curate.

Unbound Visual Arts (UVA) utilizes experienced and trained curators and exhibition designers to ensure that all UVA exhibitions are created, designed and installed to ensure that the audience has meaningful and thought-provoking experiences when visiting exhibitions.  A major part of Unbound Visual Arts’ mission is to present curated educational art exhibitions on important cultural and social topics, such as wellness, non-violence, gender equality, and environmental sustainability.  That mission is a unique means of presenting contemporary art exhibitions. All of UVA’s exhibitions are created to be beneficial to all audiences.   See the American Alliance of Museum’s Statement on Curators and UVA’s definition of an exhibition

Generally, UVA Guest Curators assist in creating contemporary art exhibitions with a purpose that are fun, entertaining and meaningful yet still provide a strong learning environment.  Curators sign an agreement with UVA outlining the duties and responsibilities for both parties.  That agreement will include, but not limited to, the following curatorial duties.

  • Recommend an exhibition theme and educational story lines.
  • Recommend the exhibition title that captures the essence of the exhibition.
  • Prepare a compelling curator’s statement of approximately 150 words.
  • Prepare a shorter version of the curator’s statement for the press release (approximately 50-75 words).
  • Organize the narrative biography of the artist(s) for the press release
  • Prepare a narrative biography of the curator for the press release
  • Write a 1-2 sentence summary of the exhibition for postcard
  • Write the artwork labels that identifies the individual artwork (artist, title, media, dimensions, price) and a short interpretative statement about the artwork, if applicable
  • Make suggestions for art installation and design
